Growing up in Akron, Ohio, Alvin Bess faced a challenge that set him apart in every room — he had a severe stutter. It made school, friendships, and everyday conversations difficult. Too often, he was misunderstood, overlooked, or underestimated.
But Alvin refused to let his voice define his future. He learned to lead in silence, to observe, to prepare, and to outwork. Where others saw limitation, he saw motivation.
That discipline carried him from studying urban planning to building a career dedicated to creating stronger communities. Today, Alvin is a respected urban-planning professional, published author, accomplished public speaker, and passionate advocate for equity, opportunity, and human potential.
His story is proof that resilience transforms pain into power — and preparation opens doors that doubt tried to close.
